  1. At first you only see grey. Twenty-six bands, each one a day in the life of a substation.
  2. And then this one red layer. Brückmann calls it the day nothing flowed.
  3. The red is not an alarm. It is the pause, and it carries everything above it.
  4. Step closer: the edges are not painted, they are calculated. Each spike is a quarter of an hour.

About the work

For ›Lastgang‹ (load curve), Brückmann translates a substation's load profiles into layers of colour: each band is a day, its height the load on the grid. The series follows fixed rules; the artist only chooses the crop. Lastgang 07 is the only work with a red band.

Lena Brückmann

Fictional artist. Works with data from infrastructure: power, water, traffic. Each band in her load curves is one day on the grid.
