About

UMSPANN is a space for contemporary art in a decommissioned electrical substation in Germany's Ruhr area. Where voltage used to be transformed, we show work that deals with systems, grids and pauses. The house is invented: a concept by the MOONAGE studio.

Schaltgang
The switching corridor: 54 m long, 4.2 m wide, nine fields of 6 m each
Exhibitions
Three to four per year
Admission
€8 · reduced €5 · under 18 free · free on Thursdays from 17:00

Getting here

Am Umspannwerk 3, Ruhr area (fictional address). From the main station take the tram to ›Schaltanlage‹, then walk five minutes along the old railway line. Bike racks at the gate.

Accessibility

The corridor is level and step-free. Folding stools are available at the entrance. Every work has an audio guide and the same text to read. On the website everything stays readable with ›reduce motion‹ switched on: the corridor becomes a list.

Groups and schools

Guided tours for up to 15 people on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by arrangement, when the house is otherwise closed.
